About Me

Jia is a music teacher and bassist from Westchester, New York who recently graduated from Temple University with a Bachelors of Music in Music Education. She currently coaches the modern band program at Abington High School, M3. She began her journey in music at the age of 4 when she played Woodstock in You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown. Since then, music has been a consistent presence in her life. Jia’s teaching philosophy involves using music to learn emotional regulation, as well as sharing the joy of music with students.

Jia is also a professional musician, taking gigs on double bass and electric. While at Temple, she has performed at Kimmel Center, The Grape Room, PhilaMOCA and Kung Fu Necktie. She has studied bass with both Anne Peterson and Tony Maceli.

My personal teaching philosophy is that the music classroom allows us to teach more than just music. Music can be a vessel that teaches students important social skills and empowerment in my classroom as well as every future room they walk into. To guarantee comfortability within my classroom, I will develop an environment that is inclusive and that celebrates every student.
